Connhex 3 Quartz: a refined control experience, from edge to AI

🍁 A new Connhex release is here!

Welcome to Connhex 3 Quartz. This release makes the day-to-day experience of building and operating connected products smoother: from a completely redesigned Control interface, to easier edge-device enrollment and recovery, to new tools for developers and AI-powered workflows.

Connhex, hosted

Connhex is now also available as a hosted service at connhex.com. You can register an account and start building without managing the underlying infrastructure yourself.

Hosted Connhex includes unlimited devices and unlimited data, so your platform can grow with your product without adding limits to your fleet or the information it produces.

A new Connhex Control

The most visible change in Quartz is a complete overhaul of Connhex Control. The new interface gives teams a clearer, faster way to work with their fleet and the resources around it.

Fleet status now relies on the summary API, making online, offline and never-connected device counts more reliable. We have also improved remote tables, so pagination and filtering behave consistently, and identity lists now load up to 3,000 entries by default.

Provisioning is more flexible too: when creating a connectable, you can optionally choose the tenant it belongs to right away.

Keeping devices connected, even when things go wrong

Managing devices in the field is never just about the happy path. Quartz adds a recovery flow for devices that have lost their initialization key, available through SnapLink in Connhex Control. This gives operators a practical way to bring a lost device back into service without turning recovery into a manual engineering task.

On the edge, the new enroll command configures a Connhex Edge agent with a single enrollment token. Remote restarts are now supported as well: agents retrieve a fresh configuration when they come back up, helping teams roll out changes with greater confidence.

We have also made the surrounding foundations more robust, including package upgrades, systemd installation, remote initialization and MQTT session handling.

Better reporting, without unnecessary complexity

Connhex Exporter now supports standard Markdown-based reports, so scheduled and reusable reports no longer require an AI service. Every export type can also be rendered as a PDF from Markdown, making it easier to share information outside your Connhex environment.

AI-generated reports remain available for existing report configurations, but are now optional. Other export improvements include:

  • safe raw-message exports
  • configurable decimal separators for CSV and other tabular formats
  • timezone-aware message buckets
  • per-channel export authorization

Together, these updates make reports and data exports more predictable for both technical and business users.

More precise automation and notifications

The Connhex Rules Engine gains bulk rule creation, a createdAfter filter and per-notification targets and muted fields. Time-window conditions now correctly respect the configured timezone. This is especially useful for schedules that cross local-day boundaries or daylight-saving changes.

Connhex Core extends that same timezone awareness to time-based aggregations: calculations can be aligned to an IANA timezone, including local days and daylight-saving transitions.

For Connhex Notifications, email bodies can now be sent as raw HTML using the new bodyFormat field, while Firebase Cloud Messaging notifications are delivered at high priority.

Connhex for developers and AI clients

Quartz introduces the first official set of developer tools for Connhex:

  • a typed Python SDK, with synchronous and asynchronous clients, typed API errors, timeouts and retry backoff
  • a CLI for managing Connhex resources and registering connectables
  • local and remote MCP servers that make Connhex things, models, messages, resources, IAM and Rules Engine APIs available to compatible AI clients

Remote MCP connections support OAuth 2.0 and session-cookie authentication, while tool filtering and transformation settings let you decide exactly which Connhex capabilities an AI client can use.

This is an important step toward making Connhex easier to integrate into the tools and workflows your team already uses, including scripts, internal platforms and AI assistants.

A few more highlights

The Home Assistant add-on can now forward selected entity attributes as SenML records, giving you more control over the context that reaches Connhex. Connhex Copilot also improves how authentication and training-data schemas are handled when working with Delta.

As always, this release also includes many quality, reliability and security-minded improvements across the platform.
